There's a new look to some Macon-Bibb recreation centers because they're being renovated.
Some county officials and others marveled at the new changes at the Rosa Jackson Community center during the big reveal Saturday afternoon.
Parks and Recreation Executive Director, Doc Dougherty, said first-class renovations include new basketball goals, scoreboards, and time clocks.
There are also new seats and floors.
Dougherty says $4 million of SPLOST funds were set aside for the center.
He says the first phase of renovations cost $90,000.
Dougherty said Bibb County's goal is to change what recreation means to the area.
"As we look at our different centers, we're looking to try to create specialty centers, and not have where every center has karate and basketball classes, but actually have centers designed for different programs," said Dougherty.
Bibb Commission Chairman, Sam Hart, said, "They're doing things in terms of mentoring. They're doing things in terms of literacy and development. We also intend to do something in terms of health and wellness."
Dougherty said they will start some of those new programs within the next 6 months.
