'They walked into a gunfight' | Mother speaks out after son shot in Macon

The shooting killed one person and injured three more on Monday night.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in finding the person or persons responsible for a fatal shooting.

They said it happened around 11:22 p.m. Monday night on Napier Avenue, near the corner of Atlantic Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they found 35-year-old Teresa McKenney unresponsive after being shot. Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley pronounced McKenney dead on the scene.

But the shooting also injured three other victims, including Katina Green's son.

"Pray every night that mines be protected, everybody be protected, everybody children, cause you know it's sad," Green said.

She said her son was shot in the leg, but he came back home from the hospital on Tuesday to recover. Her son told her he didn't personally know the shooter.

"Somebody was up top, way up top of the road where they're shooting. And they end up getting hit," Green said.

She said her son was getting ready to leave the house one moment, and the next moment, he was shot when he stepped outside his door.

"It was just his cousin come around- they watch TV. together. And they were getting ready to go to his other cousin's house. They were getting ready to go, and then they walked into a gunfight," Green said.

The sheriff's office said the three people injured were taken to the hospital. One man was reported in critical but stable condition and the two other victims were in stable condition.

So far, no arrests have been made yet, and the Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating what lead up to it.
