Man killed in east Macon fire, Bibb County Coroner says

It happened near the intersection of Kitchens and Boone Street, which is just off Shurling Drive.

MACON, Ga. — A 65-year-old man is dead after a house fire in east Macon, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The fire happened on Tuesday night at 1426 Kitchens Street, which is located just off Shurling Drive near the AutoZone Auto Parts store. 

He was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m. at Piedmont Macon. Jones said Arthur Merriweather died from multiple burns and smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the fire has not been released at this time.
