MACON, Ga. — Early on the morning of May 24, Silas Moore was headed to Six Flags to meet his girlfriend's family. That's when everything took a left turn, Brian Moore says.
On Maynard's Hill Road in Forsyth, a car slammed into the side of his vehicle.
“We were just thankful that he was alive,” his father, Brian said.
Brian says Silas, 16, is now suffering from post-traumatic amnesia due to severe brain injuries. He spent two weeks in Macon for surgery after the accident.
“The first week was spent unconscious, then he slowly started waking up after that," Brian said. "We were transferred to a Scottish Rite in Atlanta for some rehabilitation."
Now, a Macon business is hosting a T-shirt fundraiser for Silas. Apparel Authority says all funds will go directly to Silas and shirts will take about 10 days to complete.
Lindsey Barnes is a friend of the family and says she was in a similar accident on the same road. She's also a marketing solutions specialist at Apparel Authority in Macon and she wants to support Silas.
“I guess you just kind of relive it and you relive those moments," Barnes said.
According to the CDC, motor vehicle fatality is the leading cause of accidental death among teenagers. Accidents cause nearly half of all deaths to teenagers.
But Brian says Silas' prognosis is positive.
"Physically, he's made a very strong recovery, "Barnes said.
Silas Moore's family says they are thankful for all the love and support they have received from the community.
