Macon sports bar closes after 16 years

After 16 years in business, CJ's Sports Bar & Grill in Macon had last call Sunday night.

Chuck Lewis said he and partner John Holton have had a nice run.

The men, owners of CJ's Sports Bar & Grill, 2910 Riverside Drive in Macon, have decided to call it quits after 16 years.

They had their last call Sunday night and the restaurant was packed out with patrons from over the years.

"If we could do that three or four days a week, we would've stayed open," Lewis said Monday afternoon.

The closure was prompted by several factors, Lewis added.

"The economy ... patrons get older and move on and more places have opened up and downtown is doing really well," he said. When construction was taking place on Interstate 75 near the restaurant, a lot of business dropped off, Lewis said.

"We're fortunate we lasted as long as we did. It was a very difficult decision ... we've been thinking about (closing) for the last couple of years," Lewis said.
