Macon NAACP wants answers after ballot mix-up

They held a press conference where they said voting needed to be stopped, but the election board says the issue has already been fixed.

MACON, Ga. — The Macon-Bibb Chapter of the NAACP is asking for clarification after wrong ballots were given to some county voters.

"How that happened we have not been able to get clarification as to how that happened?" NAACP Gwennette Westbrooks said. "They say it has been corrected but will it happen again?"

Westbrooks says the group plans to file a complaint with the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

That complaint is in response to voters expecting to vote in the 6th district for Bibb County Commission accidentally being given ballots for the 9th district.

The NAACP wants to know how many people received incorrect ballots.

The NAACP and Renolda Scott, a candidate for District 9, are calling for putting a stop to voting.

"We need to stop this voting right now in order for them to get this issue corrected, so we will show up on the correct ballot," Scott said.

However, Election Supervisor Thomas Gillon says they believe the ballot snafu is fixed, but they're checking the data provided to poll workers to make sure every voter gets the right ballot.

However, he says it is important to check the names and make sure they are correct.

If you're voting in District 6, the names on your ballot should be George Thomas and Raymond Wilder.

The District 9 names are Brendalyn Bailey, Greg Turner, Thomas Hudson, and Renoalda Scott. So if you see any of those names on your ballot voting for District 6, you need to call a worker to replace it.

They're also concerned with accessibility at the Macon-Bibb Board of Elections office at the Macon Mall.
