The departure is not immediate and Sullivan will remain at the helm until fall comes around, Daybreak said.

Sister Theresa Sullivan — the director of one of Macon's leading homeless resource centers, Daybreak — is stepping aside this Fall, according to a Facebook post from the organization.

They say it comes as Sullivan accepts a new position at The Daughters of Charity International Project Services, where she'll become their executive director.

According to a press release, they work to "minimize human suffering and foster sustainable development" through fundraising efforts.

But Sullivan has been at the helm of Daybreak for seven years, which is run by the religious nonprofit Depaul USA. They say her time leading the organization has been an impactful one.

"Sr. Theresa Sullivan has been a wonderful and incredibly impactful director of Depaul USA-Macon these past seven years," the post said. "She will be dearly missed but we are excited to see her thrive in her new position."

Depaul USA points to the Sleep Out fundraiser as "the largest single fundraiser in the seven countries that comprise Depaul International," the press release said.

On top of that, they say Sullivan's personality and attitude helped make Daybreak a welcoming place for Macon's homeless community.

"Her warm and welcoming personae made Daybreak, a day resource center that serves more than 1,800 individuals annually, a place of refuge for all experiencing homelessness and poverty," the press release said. "Her compassion, intellect and experience made her one of Macon's definitive voices on the issues of housing, healthcare and homelessness."

The organization announced their search for a new director of Daybreak to continue to lead the organization in the coming years.

In a statement included in the press release, Sullivan says that the work of Daybreak is not over.

"It was the greater Macon community that came together to birth Daybreak. It is the great Macon community that will welcome the new director and continue to support our mission," Sullivan said.
