MACON, Ga. — If you're searching for a new home, you could soon have another place to search in Macon.
Double Eagle Associates wants to build 30 houses on the corner of Rivoli Drive and Wesleyan Woods Drive. Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning commissioners are set to consider it Monday. Not all neighbors, like Shelby Cramer, are convinced. She plans to be at the meeting.
"It was so nice and quiet. I could sit out here on my sun porch," she said.
Cramer moved in on Wesleyan Woods Drive 19 years ago, eager for a change.
"Children would stop and the horses would come over and the children would feed them apples and carrots," she recalled.
Cramer got rural charm and convenience, too. She doesn't have many neighbors, but soon, she could have plenty more right across the street.
"I don't want to lose all the nature that's here. All the trees that are here. It's just going to be 30 houses and no trees," Cramer said.
According to Double Eagle's proposal, each home will have three bedrooms, all around 2,000 square feet. They're estimated to cost around $400,000. Randy Griffin with the group says they're looking for people trying to downsize to move in. With all the extra neighbors, Cramer worries about traffic.
"It's going to dump out in my back driveway. That's going to be their entrance in my back driveway," she said.
Griffin says since it's a smaller development, traffic shouldn't be a problem.
A traffic study in the proposal says Rivoli Drive should be able to handle it easily. It says the increase in traffic may be within capacity for Wesleyan Woods. Still, Cramer says it's not right for the neighborhood.
"Do something that will benefit the community," Cramer said.
