Macon-Bibb Commission approves 2025 budget: What got an increase in funding?

The Macon-Bibb County budget has grown nearly $40 million since 2022, according to the Macon-Bibb County Commission.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Commission approved its budget for the 2025 fiscal year on Tuesday, according to a release from Macon-Bibb County.

“Macon-Bibb County is working together, and we continue to climb,” Mayor Lester Miller says. “You see that in this budget, the fruits of our labor.”

The release says the budget will include a property tax reduction for the fourth-straight year. They also say there will be a pay increase for all county employees. Some employees have already seen an increase while others will receive a pay bump starting in July.

“It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to make this happen,” Miller says. “While I may be presenting this budget, we couldn’t do it without our great folks in the Budget and Finance Departments.”

The release also says Miller's budget proposal recommends dropping the millage rate to 9.9, though that will be officially voted on in August.

Bibb County's budget has grown by nearly $40 million since 2022, according to the release. It says the budget will be $211.6 million next year.

Macon-Bibb County also reports that funding for public safety, recreation and beautification and economic development has increased by a combined $25 million over the past four years.

“It’s not every day that a community can say they’ve increased all their focus points by millions of dollars per department," Miller says. "(We've) given raises to all of their employees, continue to support public safety, while having some of the best infrastructure we have in place, and at the same time be able to decrease our tax rate by 52%.”
