MACON, Ga. — Friendships are special. Friendships formed through shared interests like art sometimes lead to even stronger bonds.
For a group of Macon art students, those bonds brought them to band together to support a classmate and her mother, who is battling lung cancer. Sunday, 14 art students gathered at east Macon's Mill Hill Community Art Center to paint for a cure.
People brought in jeans and jean jackets for the students to paint, along with donations to help pay medical bills.
"I think it's very important for it to not just be a student-led function but more so seeing a different community of all females that are different ages and different grades, but they all had that one thing that really connects them," the students' teacher, Randy Heart, said.
While Heart's students painted spectacular designs on all the denim, supporters could also learn from the experts. They helped teach people how to paint.
The event also had a DJ and games for people to play as they waited on the students' custom creations to be finished.
Heart says all the donations went to the student's mother to help her pay medical bills related to her treatment.
"Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much," he said.
