MACON, Ga. — Kwanzaa is almost here in Central Georgia!
The celebrations for the holiday begin on December 26, and last through January 1.
Macon has many events going on throughout the week to celebrate.
Unity discussion- Dance Performance and Drum Circle
When: Dec. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre
The event is free and open to the public
Film Screening: "500 Years Later"
When: Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre
Youth Talent Demonstration and Open Mic
When: Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre
The event is free and open to the public
A Call to Action Day for Black Dollar Power: Spending with Black Businesses
When: Dec. 29 all day and community-wide
Think Before You Move Chess Tournament
When: Dec. 30 at 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre
This event is hosted by Momma Dee with DJ Phi. There will be $1,000 in cash prizes and all donations and proceeds from the event will benefit the Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center.
Film Screening: "The Sunrises in the East" and Culture Discussion and Exhibit by Marth E. Bright
When: Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre
The event is free and open to the public
The Kwanzaa Karamu (Delicious and Healthy feast)
When: Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. at the Frank Johnson Recreation Center
There will also be a community drum circle, children's book reading and other family activities.
