MACON, Ga. — The Harris-Walz campaign is coming to Macon on Friday, the campaign confirmed.
While Harris and Walz will not be in attendance, U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams from Georgia, "reproductive freedom storyteller" Latorya Beasley and local leaders are coming to Macon Friday morning.
It's part of the "Fighting for Reproductive Freedom" bus tour and is seeking to highlight the campaign's stature on abortion rights.
“This election is about freedom – and the American people want and deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions," Harris-Walz Campaign Manager Chavez Rodríguez said in a statement.
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court Dobbs v Jackson decision throwing out Roe v Wade — which previously protected access to abortion — Democrats have attempted to seize on the issue of abortion rights.
In the statement, Harris-Walz campaign manager Rodríguez says that is exactly what they are doing
"As we crisscross the country, we are driving that contrast home to red and blue voters and independents," Rodríguez said in a release. "The ‘Fighting for Reproductive Freedom’ bus tour will drive home for voters that this threat to our fundamental freedoms touches every American.”
However, it's not the first election 2024 event held here in Central Georgia.
The Trump campaign previously held a press event in Perry, highlighting the campaign's position on "No Tax on Tips." That event featured U.S. Rep. Austin Scott, State Rep. John Kennedy and a caterer from Moultrie.
The Harris-Walz bus tour comes off a series of campaign events in southeast Georgia, including a rally in Savannah.
The "Fighting for Reproductive Freedom" bus tour will kick off in Florida, and many of the details of where and when they will be in Macon are still tentative. However, they expect to be in Macon earlier in the day on Friday.
