The girlfriend of a Macon man who was shot and killed earlier this morning has been charged with murder.
According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, 45-year-old Donna Jackson is accused of shooting her boyfriend, 53-year-old Ricky Smith. The shooting happened at a home on Macon Avenue around 1 a.m.
Jackson told police she shot Smith in self-defense. Deputies say they found Smith at the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was then taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health where he later died.
Smith's sister, Gloria, said her brother was a quiet and humble person.
"He was just real loving, caring," she said. "He'd give you the shirt off your back. ... It's just heart breaking, you know."
Smith told us her brother had two daughters and three grandchildren. Jackson remains in the Bibb County Jail.

According to a news release, Jackson told police she shot 53-year-old Ricky Smith in self-defense. Deputies arrived to the scene where they found Smith with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was taken to Medical Center, Navicent Health where he was pronounced dead.
Jackson is being held in the Bibb County LEC and is charged with murder.

A Macon man was shot and killed in the 1100 block of Macon Avenue early Saturday morning around 1 a.m.
According to Bibb County coroner Leon Jones, 53-year-old Ricky Smith was pronounced dead at 1:34 a.m. at Medical Center, Navicent Health. Jones said Smith died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
