Georgia Power's Plant Branch power plant on Lake Sinclair near Milledgeville is scheduled to close for good Wednesday.
Georgia Power spokesman Brian Green says Plant Branch will close just before the EPA's April 16th deadline for Mercury and Air Toxins Compliance.
Green says the environmental upgrades required to keep Plant Branch open past that deadline were too costly.
Plant Branch had 229 employees in January 2013 when the closure was first announced, but Green says most employees have retired or transferred to other Georgia Power facilities since then.
Plant Branch will be demolished after it is closed.
