The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says former NBA basketball player Sharone Wright was cited for disorderly conduct after arguing with the grandmother of a child attending his basketball camp.
According to Lt. Randy Gonzalez, the sheriff's office got a call around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday about a dispute between 48-year-old Samantha Jones, and 41-year-old Sharone Wright. Jones' grandchild is attending an annual basketball camp run by Wright,.
a Southwest High School graduate and former NBA player.
Jones told deputies that she and Wright got into an argument, and he used foul language toward her in front of children at the camp on Rocky Creek Road.
Gonzalez did not know what the two were arguing about, but we spoke to Wright by phone and he says it was over candy prices at his camp.
Wright says the camp provides free meals to the participants, but certain items, such as the candy, are sold if the kids would like to purchase that instead. He says the money from those sales is just a little money he gives to those who volunteer with his camp.
Wright says Jones caused a scene at the camp on Monday as well, but he was not present when that happened.
He said he would rather the focus be on the kids and not him or this situation, because there are other issues in Macon to be concerned about.
He says Wright received a citation for disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor and said Wright was cooperative with the officer.
According to his website, this is Wright's 18th year hosting the basketball camp.
Wright attended Clemson University and played four years in the NBA with two teams.
