What used to be Macon Gardens Apartments, now has a new look and a new name, Bella Vista Apartments.
But now, the new owners, USA Management, are currently working to refurbish the 132-unit complex.
"These units were literally trashed," said operational manager James Centerfitt.
He was not part of the staff at Macon Gardens Apartments but is familiar with the images of moldy pipes, insects, and torn tile.
"We're doing a complete overhaul from the bottom up," said Centerfitt.
That includes new faucets, new cabinets, an upgraded electrical system, plumbing, flooring, and more.
"What we want to do is create an environment for Central Georgia people to come into and feel safe," said Centerfitt.
Upgrades alone are pushing $1 million. Sixty of the units are already complete and ready for new tenants. They do accept Section 8.
