MACON, Ga. — In honor of the National MLK Day of Service Movement, a handful of churches collaborated to host a "pick-out" event for folks in need.
Instead of picking up a bag of random goods, people got to pick and choose what they wanted.
It's the second year in a row the Centenary Community Ministries came out to honor King's legacy.
This morning, folks got to pick out fresh produce, grocery items, clothes, hygenic goods, household items and a hot meal.
Melissa Rodriguez-McClain is the executive director of the ministry.
She says this was a labor of love from volunteers.
"The community told us what they needed, we answered, and that's how the legacy of our ministry, was born, of centenary community ministries," Rodriguez-McClain said. "Now, we want to feed all the donations people have given us, we wanna feed those right back into the community."
The First Baptist Church of Christ, High Street Unitarian Universalist Church and Mulberry United Methodist collaborated with the Centenary Community Ministries to put the event together.
