Father Denied Bond in 2-Month Old Baby's Death

Darrlyn Deshawn Jones was denied bond Monday by the Bibb County Magistrate Court in the killing of his 2-month old child.

Darrlyn Deshawn Jones was denied bond Monday by the Bibb County Magistrate Court in the killing of his 2-month old child.

Jones has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault family violence in connection with the child's death.

According to Macon Police, officers responded to a call for an unresponsive infant early Sunday. They arrived and began treating 2-month old Jayceon Davis, who was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Medical tests showed that the baby sustained severe head injuries.

Jones told police he had been laying with the child and went to go get water. When he came back, he says the child jumped as if startled and was crying. He told police he shook the baby to get it to respond.

Macon Police says Jones gave conflicting statements to investigators.

Dr. Yameika Head, a forensic pediatrician at the Medical Center of Central Georgia says cases of infants being shaken is very common, and that they often cause serious damage.

"Most cases I do see are from being frustrated or the child not doing what they're supposed to and parents not being able to deal with that. So just walk away, you know, take some time to get yourself together," she says.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says this the second case this year of a child death involving a family member. There were also three such cases last year.

Leon Jones says the results of the autopsy have not been completed yet.
