A drilling project on I-75 to affect exit ramps at 2 locations for 3 days

A release from the Georgia Department of Transportation said the exit ramps will be closed for three days for an unspecified drilling project.

MACON, Ga. — Planning on driving near Mercer University late at night or early in the morning?  An announcement from the Georgia Department of Transportation means drivers may need to take a new route.

A release from GDOT said they're closing both the northbound and southbound exit ramps at Exit 163 on I-75 for the next three nights. Exit ramps on Stadium Drive and State Route 74 will also be closed.

Starting Wednesday, the ramps will close at 9 p.m. and reopen around 5 a.m., which will continue on Thursday and Friday. The construction should be complete by Saturday just in time for Mercer's home game against Western Carolina.

GDOT said the ramp shutdown is due to a drilling project, but didn't provide any further details. Gina Snyder with the department says they are getting soiling samples to possibly prepare for light poles. GDOT said the schedule may change due to the weather or various other factors.

Mercer's Stadium Drive and Mercer University Drive are the most affected areas. The state issued a warning to reduce your speed and be safe driving in these work zone areas.
