The Bibb County Coroner's Office and Sheriff's Office are investigating a suspicious death after an unidentified woman's body was found in the backyard of a Southshore Drive home around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to coroner Leon Jones, the badly decomposed body is a white woman.
Jones said the body was discovered by a neighbor. He told Jones he smelled an odor, went closer and noticed the body. He then called authorities. It's not clear who lived in the house.
An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner Monday.
Jones said this is the first year Macon has had many decomposed bodies.
