MACON, Ga. — A chase between the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and a Macon man ended with the suspect hiding behind a large potted plant near Alexander 4 Senior Living Facility after crashing his car into a tree, a Bibb County incident report says.
They say the deputy, J. Williams, was traveling south on Vineville near Brookdale Avenue on Saturday when they noticed a car driving erratically, crossing back and forth between the opposite lanes of traffic, the incident report said.
The report says that the driver, the authorities would later learn, was Xzavier Tiere Lewis.
When Williams pulled the man over at the Circle K parking lot at Vineville Avenue and Forrest Hill Road, the man gave him the wrong name and he noticed Lewis and the passenger were not wearing seatbelts, the incident report said.
The wrong name that Lewis provided pulled up a warrant for burglary out of Jones County, but when the deputy attempted to arrest Lewis, he looked at the officer "in my face and put his foot on the brakes."
After telling him to get out of the car for the second time, the incident report says Lewis "put the car in drive and took off."
The chase, however, would not last long.
Just under a mile away, they say Lewis crashed his car into a tree at Alexander 4 Senior Living Home, ran across the yard and eventually popped into a residential area.
They would find him hiding on the ground behind a large potted plant, the incident report said.
The report says the man refused to comply with the deputy's commands to put his hand behind his back, and after multiple orders, Lewis was Tased by deputies.
When they were able to find an ID on Lewis, they found there was a warrant for his arrest out of Jones County for Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
He now also faces numerous charges related to his driving, the chase, obstructing officers and providing a false name to law enforcement.
The report says the deputy also would find a 17-round loaded magazine in the crashed-out vehicle, which led to Lewis being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
