A Dodge Durango ran off the road and slammed into the side of Miller Magnet Middle Schools gym.
One of the drivers' family members, who did not want to be identified, said he was supposed to pick someone up from the school. She said he drove up Birch Street, onto the grassy area behind the school, over the staircase and into the gym.
The relative said she does not know what caused the accident and said the driver is being treated at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
The family couldn't give us a condition update. Police on the scene said they believe it happened around 5:30 p.m. Macon police are investigating.
On Thursday night, the Bibb County School Board authorized the contract to build Miller a new gym.
Most of the damage sustained was to an area surrounding a door.
