MACON, Ga. — A Macon man is accused of breaking into a self-storage facility while the facility was out of power due to Hurricane Helene, and he was arrested after crashing his motorcycle during a short police chase, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says.
They say Thomas William Davis, 42, was taken into custody on Thursday after crashing his motorcycle while leading deputies on a chase. The sheriff's office says he had no license plate on his motorcycle, which was why the chase originally started.
But crashing and attempting to run away on foot, Davis was arrested and authorities discovered evidence connected to a break-in at the Cube Smart Storage complex at 400 Pio Nono Avenue, the press release said.
That break-ins took place the day before on Wednesday, and the sheriff's office says multiple units were broken into as the facility was without power due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
After the chase, deputies discovered burglary tools and "items in the suspect's possession that connected him with the Cube Smart Storage burglary," the press release said.
They say Davis was booked into the Bibb County jail on Friday after receiving medical treatment related to the motorcycle crash.
He is charged with felony second-degree burglary, felony fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor obstruction, giving false information to law enforcement officers and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, the press release said.
They say his bond has since been denied.
