Some in one Macon neighborhood worry about the safety of their surrounding community, because of a bridge that's been damaged for at least a couple of years.
"It's a death trap," said Laurence Fennelly, from Beall's Hill. "A child, any pedestrian, a little animal, anything, could topple down," he said.
JR Olive with the College Hill Alliance remembers the accident that caused the broken railing around a couple of years ago.
"Driving down College Street and saw you know several emergency vehicles and services pulled over there, a big hole, gaping, you know crash site, and the car actually flipped over upside down on the railroad track," said Olive.
Two schools are close to the tracks, Alexander II and Mount de Sales. Olive said the alliance has been trying to get it fixed.
Macon-Bibb Spokesman Chris Floore said the city is working with Norfolk Southern to fix it and explained why the process has taken so long. "In order to determine what needs to be done to it, they've got to do some engineering work on it to determine how much work has to be done and those studies do take some time," said Floore.
He said both parties are working on coming up with an agreement. But with no visible progress yet, some people are doubtful that it'll get fixed until someone gets hurt.
Floore said they aren't only inspecting the railing, but other parts of the bridge as well.
