Body found by passerby at downtown Macon park, coroner says

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says a passerby found the body face down in the park Tuesday afternoon.

MACON, Ga. — A body was found in a downtown Macon park on Tuesday, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

He says the body was found Tuesday afternoon at Washington Park.

That is on Magnolia Avenue right by College Street and Poplar Street. The park is also right next to the Washington Memorial Library and the downtown Macon Post Office.

Jones said the man was found face down by a passerby and, as of now, they do not know the man's identity. He said they believe he is a white man between 45 and 50 years old.

Jones says it is too early to tell whether or not found play is involved, and he says the sheriff's office is helping to investigate.

But later, the sheriff's office told 13WMAZ that there does not appear to be any sign of foul play and it may have been a natural death.

This is a developing story. We will provide more information when it becomes available.
