MACON, Ga. — High School teacher Pamela White dressed the part for the superhero theme of Bibb County's Digital Integration program, but to be a super teacher, she has to work on her technology skills.
"I am not a super-experienced techie. I want to grab every little experience that I can, so it's worth it for me to take these three days out of my summer," White said.
Monica Radcliff, Director of Instructional Technology started the program last summer with about 90 teachers.
"There are three consecutive days where teachers devote their three days of summer to come and actually learn what Digital Integration Technology is," Radcliff said.
Teachers are learning about new applications and technology strategies to use in their classrooms like BYOD, or Bring Your Own Device, where students can actually use their own cell phones during certain lessons.
Central High School IB program Coordinator Joshua McCorkle says they're using phones in classwork now.
"Teachers have green days and red days. On green days, students can bring their devices in and we are expected to use them in the classroom. We use them for activities," McCorkle said.
"It's really important to us for students to understand that what they're learning can, we strongly tied purposefully to technology," Radcliff said.
"Our students are so used to using technology everywhere they are and it's like the one place they don't get it quite as often is when they're in the classroom, and that's something that needs to change," McCorkle said.
Spots are still open for the second session running from June 25th through the 27th.
Bibb County teachers can sign up on the district's website.
