MACON, Ga. — It's been five months since Stephen Fossett died after being tased in the Bibb County Jail.
On Tuesday night, family, friends and the community came together outside of the Bibb County Jail to sing, pray and to honor Stephen Fossett's life. Students from Clark Atlanta and the family's attorney joined to let the community know justice has not been served.
Family members wiped away tears and walked, silently reflecting on Fossett's life. His sister Tiffany Fossett says her brother was a lovable, caring person who didn't deserve what happened to him.
"Y'all have to be held accountable for what you did to him," Tiffany Fossett said.
His family says he was battling with his mental health and suffered from schizophrenia.
"We are trying to be strong, but we can't breathe because we don't know what happened," Tiffany Fossett said. "Tell us what happened. Release that footage so we can get closure."
The family said they are still asking the sheriff's office to release the footage of Fossett being tased. They are now calling on the community to sign a petition for the video's release.
Family attorneys Mawuli Davis and Nathan Fitzpatrick say they sent open records requests to the county attorney seeking transparency in Fossett's death.
"Now that the death has been ruled a homicide, we feel like there should be enough circumstance for them to at least meet with us and talk with us about the release," Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick says that the open request is still pending.
"It doesn't have to be made public, but, as Attorney David said, at least meet with the attorneys and the family so they can understand what happened," Fitzpatrick said.
In late August, the Bibb Sheriff's Office told us they're waiting on autopsy and toxicology results. They'll share those with the family once they have them.
