An Atlanta woman who police say killed a Lizella man when she crashed into his truck in 2022 learned her sentence after entering a guilty plea.
Tiffany Sayers of Atlanta was driving on Georgia Avenue at Monroe Street when the sheriff's office says she crashed into Lizella man Jimmie Long's truck, flipping his vehicle and ejecting him.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital after being found unconscious on the scene, court records show.
Sayers was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle along with a laundry list of other traffic violations including driving under the influence, driving without a license, hit and run and failing to stop at a stop sign.
The sheriff's office also says Sayers also had her 6-year-old daughter in the car with her at the time of the crash.
When she was stopped by an officer, the indictment also says Sayers gave a false name, telling Officer Joshua Jones that she was Tiffany Sawer, not Tiffany Sayers. Because of that, she was also charged with giving false information to a law enforcement officer.
Now, two years later, Sayers' case ended early this October, court records show.
She pleaded guilty to three charges: driving without a license, endangering a child while driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle. The other counts against her were merged into the homicide by vehicle charge.
Prosecutors also agreed to not prosecute Sayers on the hit and run and giving false information to law enforcement officer charges.
On the homicide by vehicle charge, Sayers was sentenced to 15 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence that the charge can carry.
For her two misdemeanor charges, she received 12 months in prison each, but they will run at the same time as the 15 years for Long's death.
