MACON, Ga. — The alleged founder of the Macon Mafia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia.
They say Alphonzo Clyde, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and was given the maximum sentence for the charge. There is no parole.
“Alphonzo Clyde and the Mafia wreaked havoc in Macon and beyond for years,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said. “This significant sentence should directly result in reduced violence, and it would not have been possible without our strong federal and local law enforcement connection.”
The release says court documents and statements in court identified Clyde as the founding member of the Macon Mafia. Clyde, a native of Macon, had outstanding warrants when the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and the Jones County Sheriff's Office confronted him on Oct. 8, 2023, per the release.
The Attorney's Office says a gun, a digital scale and a white powdery substance were all found during his October arrest.
“Alfonso Clyde is a notorious criminal whose career of mayhem has spanned nearly thirty years,” Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said. “This investigative and prosecution result is a testament to the importance of local agencies working together with our federal partners. Macon and the entire Middle Georgia community is better off having this gangster off our streets for many years to come.”
