MACON, Ga. — Amy Bolds said her home has felt emptier since Saturday when she lost her husband Danny Bolds.
He was arrested on Jan. 5 on a weapons charge and died on Jan. 20 in the Dodge County Jail.
"He's still somebody to someone. He's a father, a grandfather, he's a husband, a best friend, a uncle," Amy Bolds said.
She said she spoke with him daily from Jan. 5 to Jan. 15. Five days later, he was dead.
According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, Bolds was found dead in his cell by detention staff while conducting routine 30-minute checks.
"I talked to him three, four times a day up to that date. And never was a time that I had to be worried about him," Bolds said.
She said her husband was physically healthy, but he did have type one diabetes and he took daily medication for it.
Dodge County Sheriff Brian Robinson told 13WMAZ that her husband refused to take his diabetes medication when he was in custody.
Amy Bolds said that's very out of character for her husband and she has questions about why.
"The only way my husband would remotely even come close to refusing his medication or anything is if his sugar is too high," Bolds said.
She said when she called the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating his death, they told her they couldn't share more information because she wasn't next of kin.
She said she found out what time he died, and where he died from a story published by 13WMAZ.
"So everything that I'm finding out, I'm finding out a news website. And not coming from the GBI lab itself. Like I called, l left a message, they got back to me, but I still didn't get a clear cut answer," Bolds said.
We reached out to the GBI and they told us his body has been sent to Atlanta for an autopsy. The results are pending their investigation.
Danny Bolds leaves behind two children, three step-children and a grandchild.
Robinson said he's very sorry for the family, and wishes this could have been prevented.
