MACON, Ga. — An updated news release from the Macon Water Authority says crews have located the water main break.
It was in a 24-inch water main that extends along GA-247 from Pio Nono Ave to Hawkinsville Road.
Unfortunately, the line is in a flooded swamp area right now, so they can't access it.
They've shut water to the line to isolate it, and they are servicing most of the area by an alternate 16-inch line.
Water is in the process of being restored, but a boil water advisory is being issued for ANYONE who experienced a water outage and/or low water pressure.
You are advised to boil all water for one minute prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food until further notice.
The MWA adds that the water main break did not cause flooding in south Bibb County. They say it was caused by the heavy rainfall.
If you experienced flooding, you are encouraged to call the Macon-Bibb Public Works department and they can check to make sure storm drains in your area are clear and working.
-----
Hours after people living in south Bibb County neighborhoods woke up with no water, Macon Water Authority crews are still searching for the water main break causing the problem.
Lisa Golphin with Macon Water Authority says there are a large number of customers impacted in an area that stretches from Highway 247 to Jones Road, Hartley Bridge Road and the Sardis Church area.
They are still working to figure out how many customers that covers.
They originally thought the break was around Jones Road, but as more calls came in, they had to expand the search for the broken water line.
Until crews locate the break, there's no way to tell how long a repair may take.
Factors like the size of the line, the material it is made from, and how hard it is to reach the break all determine how long the repair will take.
She says once they do locate it, they may be able to quickly redirect water to most neighborhoods while only affecting the area directly near the break during the repair.
In areas that had low pressure or no water, there's a good chance a boil order could go into place.
People in parts of Warner Robins also woke up Thursday to low water pressure and a boil water advisory after a water main break there.
Several neighborhoods are affected.
A release from the city of Warner Robins says customers on Greenbriar Road from Briarwood Drive to North Houston Road, North Houston Road from North Lake Drive to Greenbriar Road, along with Johnson Road and Santangelo Court are all affected.
They expect the boil order to last at least 24 hours.
