MACON, Ga. — The Macon Volunteer Clinic will be soon opening their new location on Walnut Street using a recently-received $500,000 grant to complete the renovation.
Construction workers and contractors from Stroud and Co. General Contractors are helping renovate a newly elevated location for the Macon Volunteer Clinic.
The Macon Volunteer Clinic has been in business for 22 years, providing free healthcare service for the working uninsured in Central Georgia.
Macon Volunteer Clinic Executive Director John McCard says in light of their new project renovation location, they will be able to expand their services to counties that aren't served by free clinics.
"We'll have more office space, more treatment space, designated areas for eye care, dental care, counseling services and of course just basic health care services," McCard said.
The Peyton Anderson Foundation awarded the clinic with half a million dollars to help complete the project.
The grant will help them offer more free services and provide educational opportunities for students who are interested in healthcare.
Ben Holt, a project manager with Stroud, says it's a team effort and they've been working hard to renovate a better facility.
"We're glad to partner alongside them to bring this project to life," Holt said. "They are getting a first class building here that they'll be able to use here to help serve the community."
McCard says they've been receiving funds from the Peyton Anderson Foundation since the beginning. He says this is the largest grant they've received from the foundation in one instance.
"We are excited about that opportunity and being able to make a real difference," McCard said. "Working in partnerships with the local hospitals here to provide services to those who really need it."
Contractors say they hope to have the project completed by January of next year.
