Green Meadows residents gather to honor Macon shooting victim

Nearly 50 people gathered to honor the life of Kaneza Owens. They raised purple balloons in honor of domestic violence victims.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Purple balloons were released at the Green Meadows apartment complex today in honor of 28-year-old Kaneza Owens.

Bibb County Sheriff's office says she was shot Friday morning by her boyfriend, Treyvon Walker.

Nearly 50 friends and neighbors from green meadows came to honor her life. People also wore purple to honor victims of domestic violence, like Owens.

"It means a lot for the Green Meadows community because a lot of people feel that we, as a community, can not come together. This showed that we come together in a time of tragedy, a time for good times, for good support systems," says Keamber Barns.

They also wanted to spread love to Kaneza's 7-year-old daughter during the balloon release.

They are asking for a better response from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office on domestic dispute calls.

"We're all out here. We are all standing out here for a cause. We want the police to come and help us in a timely manner. Not when they feel like it or when they feel like finally want to answer the call, but now when we call, we need y'all to come out here," says Barns.

The sheriff's office is still looking for 23-year-old Treyvon Walker. Kaneza's friends have created a Go fund for funeral arrangements and to support her daughter.
