Update: Macon man dies weeks after being shot

Bibb Coroner Leon Jones says the man was shot after kicking in the door of a home

MACON, Ga. — A Macon man has died weeks after being shot.

According to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones, 49-year-old Kelvin Orr died Sunday at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

CASE INFO

A Bibb County Sheriff's Office incident report says deputies were sent to a home for a burglary in progress on Hillary Place around 5 a.m. on December 29, 2019.

While on the way to the scene, dispatch told the deputies that a person had been shot.

When they got to the scene, they found Kelvin Orr in the front yard with two gunshots wounds -- one to the stomach and one on the right side of his chest.

The homeowner at the address told deputies that he was in the bedroom sleeping when he heard his wife scream from the living room for help. He grabbed his gun and ran there.

His wife told him that someone was trying to force their way in. He opened the door and told Orr to get back.

The report says Orr charged the homeowner and that's when the homeowner fired his gun.

The report notes it appeared Orr may have been drunk and confused the house as his own.

Jones also said that although Orr died in 2020, he counts towards 2019’s homicide total since he was shot last year.

Macon-Bibb County had a total of 26 homicides in 2019.
