A Central Georgia sheriff is under investigation for alleged inappropriate touching of a woman.
That’s according to Brad Rigby, District Attorney for the Cordele Circuit.
He says he expects to take the case of Macon County Sheriff Charles Cannon Jr. to a grand jury in February.
Although Rigby would not describe the complaint against Cannon, 13WMAZ obtained an Aug. 18 incident report from Ellaville police, in Schley County that names Cannon.
The report says an officer was called to Central Automotive on South Broad Street for a report of “a male grabbing a female by the buttock.”
The report lists the offender as Charlie Cannon Jr. and an address, 1170 Les Smith Road, matching Cannon’s home listed in Macon County tax records.
The August incident report does not describe any action against Cannon and lists the case as “open.”
The report lists the possible offense as “sexual battery – misdemeanor.”
Rigby said he is handling the case as an outside prosecutor to avoid conflict of interest in the Southwestern Judicial Circuit, which includes Schley County.
We spoke to Cannon Wednesday afternoon and he declined comment on the case.
He was elected Macon County Sheriff just last year to replace his father Charles Cannon Sr.
