MACON, Ga. — A charity organization that helps improve the quality of life for children with cancer was broken into on Tuesday.

Jay’s HOPE Foundation, located in downtown Macon on Forsyth Street, works with children with cancer and their families to provide emotional, social, financial and educational support.

They posted on Facebook that they were broken into sometime Tuesday morning.

The post said that thieves broke a window, broke in and stole several things in the charity organization’s offices and playroom.

The thieves also trashed the offices, as various items were sprawled out across the floor, including photo albums.

The post said that the thieves took cards that were meant to pay for gas and food for kids who were undergoing treatment and their families.

It also said they also took multiple gifts that were meant for childhood cancer patients and siblings, as well as various donations for an upcoming fundraising event and more various items.

Following the post, several people asked Jay’s HOPE how they could help. The organization said that people can drop off blank Visa and MasterCard's, or various gift cards for food or gas.

If unable to drop them off, they can also mail these gift cards to their address at 1157 Forsyth Street in Macon.

They added that they’re also looking for volunteers now more than ever. They said that people can sign up on their website.

If you can't volunteer or donate in person, the organization added that they also have a donation page.

Despite the tough times, Jay’s HOPE said they’re very thankful for the support they’ve received from the community after this break in.
