Macon-Bibb Animal Shelter offers half-price adoptions and discounted microchipping

By the end of the event on Saturday, 92 animals were micro-chipped and seven were adopted

Folks lined up early for half-priced adoptions at the Macon-Bibb Animal Shelter on Saturday.

The discount went for both dogs and cats. People could also get their best friends microchipped for $10 a pop.

Liz Martin is a volunteer with the animal shelter and said micro-chipping can save a lot of animals an unnecessary trip to the shelter.

"It's very important to get it micro-chipped, because we see so many dogs day-in and day-out that come to shelters, or people find or are posted on Facebook, and they can't get back to their owners, and that is very sad, because owners could be looking for their dogs, and we don't have a connection back to the owner," Martin said.

When the adoption event ended, Martin said 92 animals were micro-chipped and seven were adopted.

She also said microchipping is a service available at any time throughout the year. Just stop by the shelter on Fulton Mill Road during normal business hours.
