MACON, Ga. — Macon Burger week is almost here... and restaurants have one place to beat if they want to take home the trophy.
Macon Beer Company is the reigning champion of burger week, and have won for the last two years.
They won in 2020 for their "Second Street Heat" burger, and again in 2021 for their "High on a Hog" burger.
This year, they have come up with a new creation, called the "Mississippi Mouthful" burger.
It features a double stack of 2 Certified Angus Beef burgers with melted Gruyere cheese on top, thin shaved caramelized yellow onions, and chopped pepperoncini peppers, all in between a toasted King's Hawaiian Burger Bun and served with a house made au jus for dipping.
Owner Michael Dean hopes it will secure the win for them for a third year in a row.
"Every year we do the burger competition, we try to go just a little bit outside of the norm and try to create some flavors that maybe nobody's tried before. And so I really think that this one right here in burger form is gonna be a hit," he said.
Macon Beer Company will have their titles on full display if you decide to pop in for a burger next week.
Burger week will officially begin Monday November 7, and run through the 13.
There are 3 opportunities for places to win this year. The first is by popular vote, where people can go online and vote for their favorite burger. To get instructions on how to vote, you can visit The Macon Burger Week Website.
There are also two other awards being introduced this year. The 'Cleverly Created Award' will go to the restaurant with the most creative and unique entry, and the 'Most Beef Sales Award' will go to the eatery that sells the most beef by the pound during the contest.
To access the PDF, map, and full Burger guide, you can visit the Macon Burger week website. The website also includes "commandments" on how to participate when ordering burgers and interacting with staff, as well as frequently asked questions about how the contest runs.
