MACON, Ga. — A Macon jewelry store will be closing after serving Central Georgia residents for more than 40 years of business.
Cortes Jewelers - which opened in 1982 - has decided to close after founder Richard Cortes announced his retirement.
Cortes says their friendly, low-pressure environment has been a major part of their success, and the reason why so many customers have kept coming back throughout the years.
Cortes Jewelers has supported the Macon community beyond simply business. They’ve helped groups such as The Arc Macon, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Cortes said his retirement will be bittersweet, though he’s enjoyed seeing all of the familiar faces he’s taken care of over the last 40 years.
“It’s bittersweet,” he said. “[I’ve had] a lot of good customers that have been with me for years. I’m making rings for their great grandkids, in some instances. Seeing them all come out here to see me off, support me one last time, has been - it’s been very, very uplifting.”
Cortes Jewelers has not announced an official closing date as of now.
