Live Christmas trees provide food for animals at Little Ponderosa Zoo

Zoo directors said the trees offer different smells and textures. And if they don't eat it, they'll play with it.

CLINTON, Tennessee — If you still have your Christmas trees and want to put them to good use instead of throwing them away, Little Ponderosa Zoo will take them. 

The trees provide food as well as enrichment for the animals. Zoo directors said it offers different smells and textures. And if they don't eat it, they'll play with it.

The zoo said they will collect trees until mid-January. You bring them by the zoo and drop them off in their lower parking lot anytime from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

They do ask that you don't bring them if they have fake snow or decorations on them.
