Langston Road Elementary School in Perry brings 'Macy's parade' to the halls

Each second grade class made their own balloon float.

PERRY, Ga. — Students in Perry got a chance to see art come to life with sculptures and drawings made by their classmates.

Balloon figures like Charlie Brown and Snoopy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Mr. Potato Head, and more made an appearance at Langston Road Elementary's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Fun fact: They were actually made using balloons!

Second grade teacher Marcie Pietrofere and art teacher Lori Holbrook say the idea came from a book called "Balloons over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet.

The book tells students how the actual Macy's Parade became so popular.

Pietrofere says it's a great way for the students to have fun while learning life skills.

"It like brings them real world experiences within their learning," Pietrofere says. "We talked about the economics behind the balloons and how there are choices that have to be made."

The school says the project took about three weeks to finish and will be on display through the Thanksgiving holiday.
