MACON, Ga. — The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was known to be a changemaker to his community - and on Saturday that inspiration carried on.
Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and Greater Turner Tabernacle AME got together for a community wide clean up and rally.
Volunteers got out their gloves, trash bags, and safety vests to pick up garbage from Oglethorpe to Ash Street along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in downtown Macon.
The cleanup is an annual project, and factors into helping revitalize the Greenwood Bottom Historic District.
Asha Ellen, the executive director of Keep Macon Beautiful, said Dr. King left behind a legacy they strive to maintain.
"For us to still continue, long after his death, to still continue to make an impact, it definitely warms my heart and I hope more organizations continue to, not only on MLK day, but every day, live out his legacy," she said.
Together volunteers picked up over 30 bags of trash.
With community events like these, they said they strive to make a lasting impact on the city of Macon.
