My Teacher is Tops: Mr. Jaquavious Hunt at Miller Magnet Middle School

Mr. Jaquavius Hunt is a Fort Valley State University graduate and has been teaching at Miller Magnet Middle School for five years.

MACON, Ga. — At most schools, exploratory classes, called specials, are a small part of a student's academic day. But at Miller Magnet Middle School, the arts take center stage and this week's Top Teacher is in the spotlight.

Mr. Jaquavius Hunt is a Fort Valley State University graduate and has been teaching at Miller Magnet Middle School for five years.

He is a professional artist and says he loves bringing out the creative spirit in his students.

When we came into his classroom the students were practicing using puppets for a short film they were making.

Prince Crayton shared a part of the email he sent to 13WMAZ  nominating Mr. Hunt.

"My teacher's name is Mr. Hunt and he is my favorite teacher in my class and he's just amazing," Crayton said.

Mr. Hunt says he gives his all to his students and tries to do his best for them.

"I love giving back to the kids, I love really trying to get their creativity out and let them express themselves and seeing what they can create. It's always a blessing," Hunt said.

It is clear how much of an impact Mr. Hunt has on his students.

Principal Shandeka Gibson says Hunt does so much for the school including designing and helping students create backdrops for school productions, organizing a holiday toy drive and even coaching several sports.

But she says what really matters is building relationships with students.

"We're just so proud to have him and super proud of the student, Prince, who nominated him because of the fact that that lets us know that we're doing something right because you never know who's paying attention to the work that you're doing," Gibson said.

Congratulations Mr. Hunt!
