My teacher is tops: Beth Joiner

We went to Oak Hill Middle School in Milledgeville where one seventh grade teacher was awarded this week's My Teacher is Tops.

Beth Joiner teaches language arts and junior journalist Aly Watson went to the school to surprise her.

Joiner was at a loss for words when we showed up to her classroom. One of her students, Kaylee Miller, wrote a letter describing just how amazing she is.

"(We) have a lot of fun," Miller said in her letter. "She even danced with a trash can, but you didn't hear it from me. She cares a whole lot about us. She wants us to become brilliant young men and women."

Joiner says this is her last generation of students, because she's going to retire after teaching for 29 years.

"My favorite thing has to be the children and the way they inspire me everyday," Joiner said.

But her students say she inspires them.

Mallory Budrys says Joiner teaches them new words along with new ways of learning.

"She's not like any other teacher. She just makes things more creative and fun," Budrys said.

Another student, Ahmad Cancer, says Joiner makes him feel like family.

"Just seeing her happy and all the students being happy, because of the way she teaches and she holds a certain kind of spunk that gets us excited about learning about language arts in this classroom," said Cancer.
