All summer, our team of Junior Journalists have looked high and low for fun places you can take your family for a day trip.
This week, Chanel Washington was at High Falls State Park in Jackson.
When you first arrive at High Falls State Park, you might be confused by the name.
"A lot of people think this is the waterfall," says Michelle Egan, the assistant park manager at High Falls, as she points to the dam.
The real sight to see is across the street, and down the steps.
"The tallest waterfall that's south of Atlanta," says Egan. "It's about 60 feet high. No other parks down here really have something like that."
Kelly Hardwick is a 5th grade teacher in Jones County. She and her dog Monty were enjoying rushing water.
"We came to take a day trip. This was my first trip to High Falls. It's something I've always wanted to see and just enjoy Georgia's scenic beauty," says Hardwick. "I think this is really cool. I'm surprised I've never been here before and I'm hoping my students will get to enjoy it at some point in time."
After hiking down to the falls, cool off by the lake.
"We've got a 600-acre lake," says Egan. "We've got canoes, kayaks, aqua-cycles, and paddle boards."
You can camp out in the park, or stay the night in a yurt. What's a yurt, you ask?
"We're one of the few parks that have yurts. They're big canvas tents with wood floors and furniture," says Egan. "They sleep about 6 people and they're very popular. If you don't like sleeping in a tent, but you don't have an RV, they're kind of the middle ground."
After a long day of hiking and swimming, relax by a yurt and enjoy the view of the water.
High falls State Park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
Parking passes are $5 per car and that gets you into both High Falls and Indian Springs State Park.
You can pay extra for activities such as mini golf.
