JULIETTE, Ga. — Love Kathy Bates' performance in a 90s classic? A big fan of author Fannie Flagg's work? Well, there may be a festival for you.
Juliette, Georgia, which was where the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed, is holding a festival honoring the movie which, according to a release, "made Juliette world-famous."
The movie, of course, filmed in Juliette, was released in 1991 and featured actors like Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker and Jessica Tandy. While set in Birmingham, director and producer Jon Avnet filmed in Juliette.
The movie was based on a book by Flagg, which came out in the 80's. Its full title, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe," was shortened for the movie. She also helped create the screenplay for the film.
A release welcomed people to Monroe County to eat at Whistle Stop Cafe, which was featured in the film. The Green Tomato Festival also has several booths with goods made by local artisans, live music and various rides for kids.
The Brookshire Stone, Walker and Friends, Tres Hombres and Cody Sosebee all performed live at the Opry house.
There were hundreds of people in attendance for the event. Many of those people enjoyed walking into the various stores and boutiques in and around Juliette. Several of them also got to see Santa, who took time out of his busy schedule to make a visit to the historic town.
The festivities run nearly all day and can be found on 437 McCrackin Street.
