Jones County rapper's new song highlights hometown pride

Demun Jones, a country rapper born and raised in Jones County, will hold his first hometown concert in August, and for a good cause.

GRAY, Ga. – Demun Jones, a country rapper born and raised in Jones County, will hold his first hometown concert in August, and for a good cause.

Known at home as David Jones, or “dad” to his two daughters, Jones remembers what it was like to grow up in Jones County.

“People were like, ‘I can’t stand this place. I can’t wait until I get out of high school; I’m going to move away from here,” he said.

The first single of the popular musician's new album - #Beast - is called "My Town," and it's all about how they do it in Jones County.

It starts with the line: "Big guns, loud pipes, get wild, let's fight, truck beds, iced down, Jones County, my town."

For Jones County High School softball coach Blake Lyons, this concert is a big deal, too: Jones plans to donate the ticket proceeds to buy new batting cages for the school.

“That’s unheard of… People don’t do that,” Lyons said.

Jones told 13WMAZ he was influenced by the rap group NWA and how they represented their hometown.

Jones posted the video on his Facebook page Friday and it has more than 1,600 likes and more than 500 shares. Here's a few of the about 100 comments:

• Scott Raquepaw - "This is my new jam I listened like 5 times in a row last night at work."

• David Gillen - "Sweet dude. Love the tune. Jones country was my home for two years."

• Jacob Porter - "Big guns, loud pipes! Love it!"

• Laura Sherese Wilson - "Awesome Video! #jonescounty #alumni."
