Jones County issues boil water advisory after water main break on Gray Highway

The water system in Jones County says they issued the advisory as a "precaution," but they say the advisory is expected to last until Wednesday.

JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A boil water advisory is in effect in some parts of Jones County after a water main break on Gray Highway, and they expect the advisory to last until at least mid-day Wednesday, according to a press release from Jones County Water Systems.

On Monday, the water system issued the alert for a number of areas of Jones County including all of the River North neighborhood.

Jones County Water Systems said that the boil water advisory applies  to the following areas:

  • 2810 to 2900 Gray Highway

  • RL Wheeler Road and the "few houses behind the RL Wheeler Nursery"

  • Old Gray Highway

  • Walnut Ridge

  • Crestwood Drive

  • Graham Road

  • Stagecoach Road

  • Upper River Road from Stagecoach and the River North neighborhood

  • Old Lodge Road

  • Stirk Road

  • Saddle Ridge Circle

  • Coopergate Lane

  • The entire River North Neighborhood

They say they plan on analyzing water samples "first thing in the morning" to determine whether there has been any contamination. At this point, they don't know, but they say the order "has been issued under an abundance of caution."

"We sincerely apologies for this inconvenience," the water system said in a statement." These types of situations are never planned."

They also say the "Boil Water Precaution" will last until at least mid-day Wednesday.

In the announcement, the water system says you can call them at 478-743-3211. You can see the advisory here

When under a boil water advisory, you should only use bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking and brushing your teeth, according to the CDC.

When boiling the water, allow it to come to a full rolling boil for 1 minute, allow the water to cool and then use as needed. The CDC says you still need to do this even if your tap water is filtered.

Additionally, you shouldn't use water from any appliances that are connected to a water line. For instance, using your ice and water machines connected to your refrigerator.
