MACON, Ga. — On Saturdays in June, students had the chance to learn a how to play a new instrument or maybe enhance their current musical skills.
The Jazz Association of Macon teamed up with the Phillips Performing Arts Foundation to host a Young Musicians Workshop where 20 middle schoolers learned to play an instrument of their choice.
Some chose the piano, while others chose the saxophone, guitar, or the drums.
The Community Foundation of Central Georgia funded the workshop through a Downtown Challenge Grant and some students say they plan to keep playing after the camp.
"You'll learn a lot about music, and you'll also learn how to behave and make sure you're using the right etiquette, and then you'll learn a lot about music and other instruments and the history of and how to play it," said student Chris Moore.
The students get to show off their new skills in a recital on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Mill Hill Community Arts Center in Macon.
