"It is no excuse for violence:" Dublin community reacts to YKK plant shooting

According to police, 22-year-old Phillip Brantley shot at another employee.

DUBLIN, Ga. — It is a typical day at work for Hunter Bennett, but before starting his day, he heard unexpected news.

"It’s the first thing my wife asked me this morning. It was, 'did you know there was a shooting last night at YKK?' I said, 'no I didn’t," Bennett said.

Bennett’s brother works at the Dublin manufacturing plant for 20 years now. Bennett says he has always known the facility to be a safe place.

"They have top notch security. Getting in and out of the factory and the facility, even just getting into the gate, they have to have your name on the gate," Bennett said.

According to police, 22-year-old Phillip Brantley shot another employee.

"It looked like an isolated incident that could’ve happened anywhere," Bennett said.

"I’m going to be honest with you, I’m so tired of hearing this same thing over and over again," Hunter said.

Heaven’s Haven Baptist Church Pastor Clifford Hunter is advocating to stop violence around the city. He says violence is not the answer to problems.

"There is no excuse for it. I don’t care how angry you get. I don’t care what’s going on in your life, it is no excuse for violence. We’ve just really got to work hard to find a way as a community to get rid of it," Hunter said.

Hunter says it is up to community and the people to stop the violence.

"Police officers can’t stand at a business all day long, but people can stand up for what’s right and that’s what has to happen," Hunter said.

Bennett says he is glad more people were not hurt.

Dublin Police Chief, Tim Chatman, says they are not releasing the victim's name over safety concerns.
